New Delhi, 21 February (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed India and Brazil's commitment to elevate bilateral trade beyond 20 billion dollars over the next five years, emphasizing that this commerce embodies mutual trust and a robust strategic partnership beyond mere statistics.

Strategic Ties and Leadership Vision

During a joint press conference at Hyderabad House on Saturday with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, PM Modi lauded President Lula's visionary leadership and inspirational guidance, which have long enriched India-Brazil relations. Recalling multiple past meetings, he highlighted the profound friendship and confidence President Lula has consistently shown toward India.

PM Modi welcomed the large business delegation accompanying President Lula, terming it a symbol of burgeoning economic trust, especially after Lula's participation in the historic AI Impact Summit that infused fresh vigor into their strategic partnership. Brazil stands as India's largest trading partner in Latin America, with the impending expansion of the India-Mercosur trade agreement set to fortify economic ties further.

Prioritizing cooperation in technology and innovation, PM Modi stressed its significance not only for both nations but for the entire Global South.

Work progresses on establishing a Center of Excellence in Brazil for Digital Public Infrastructure, alongside prioritized collaboration in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, semiconductors, and blockchain—ensuring technology remains inclusive and bridges equitable progress.

Energy cooperation forms a sturdy pillar, accelerating in hydrocarbons, renewables, ethanol blending, and sustainable aviation fuel; Brazil's active role in the Global Biofuels Alliance exemplifies their shared resolve for a green future.

PM Modi welcomed Brazil's offer to co-chair the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), noting its expertise will empower the alliance, while agreements on critical minerals and rare earths mark vital steps toward resilient supply chains; burgeoning defense ties reflect mutual confidence and strategic synergy.

Agriculture and animal husbandry partnerships are evolving to meet future needs through climate-resilient agriculture, precision farming, and bio-fertilizers, bolstering food security; Centers of Excellence in Brazil for oilseeds, pulses, and integrated farming represent key initiatives. In health and pharmaceuticals, India will ramp up affordable, quality drug supplies to Brazil, alongside expanding Ayurveda and traditional medicine for holistic healthcare.

On global forums, the two democracies will champion Global South priorities, advocating dialogue and diplomacy for resolutions, while uniting against terrorism as humanity's common foe. PM Modi expressed confidence that President Lula's visit will deepen the strategic partnership and unlock new collaborative horizons in the years ahead.
