Liévin, France, , 20 February (H.S.): Britain's Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson etched her name in history on Thursday by breaking the women's 800m indoor world record at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Meet.According to World Athletics, the 23-year-old clocked an astonishing 1:54.87, eclipsing Slovenia's Jolanda Ceplak's mark of 1:55.82 set on March 3, 2002—nearly 24 years prior—by a decisive 0.95 seconds.

Switzerland's Audrey Werro claimed second place but trailed significantly behind the British runner.Hodgkinson seized the lead from the outset, covering the first 200m in 26.47 seconds, the 400m in 55.56 seconds, and reaching 600m at 1:25.06, well ahead of her competitors.

Post-race, she thanked the roaring crowd, noting she could distinctly hear their support throughout the stadium. Her accolades include a silver at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and gold at Paris 2024.
