New Delhi, 20 February (H.S.): Officials from India and the United States will convene a three-day meeting starting February 23 in America to finalize the legal draft of their interim trade agreement. This session aims to convert the agreement's framework—announced in a joint statement earlier this month—into a formal legal document, paving the way for signatures next month.
The Indian delegation will be led by Darpan Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Negotiator in the Commerce Ministry, with both sides set to offer tariff concessions on various goods. The US has committed to reducing retaliatory duties on Indian products from 25% to 18%, while the previously imposed 25% punitive tariffs on India—due to Russian crude oil purchases—have already been lifted.
