From
silk production to employment, Yogi Government is modernizing traditional
industries
Lucknow,
02 Feb (HS): Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar
Pradesh government is continuously taking effective steps to modernize the
state's traditional and rural industries. In this regard, a Center of
Excellence has been established in the state to strengthen the silk
industry, identify pure silk fabrics, and familiarize the public with the
entire process of silk production.
This
ambitious centre was inaugurated by the state's Minister for Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises, Khadi and Village Industries, Silk Industry, Handloom and
Textile Industry, Rakesh Sachan. On this occasion, Minister Sachan said that
this Centre of Excellence, established in the Silk Directorate premises, is an
important achievement for the state, where a direct and live demonstration of
the entire chain of silk production is being given. He said that here the
entire process of making thread from silkworm, spinning of yarn and the entire
process of cloth manufacturing can be seen at one place.
Minister
Rakesh Sachan said that this site was previously in a dilapidated state, but
through departmental efforts, it has been given a modern, grand, and useful
look. Now, this center will become a major center of silk industry recognition
for visitors from India and abroad at the state headquarters. Here, the
production processes of eri, mulberry, and tussar silk will be understood
firsthand.
He
said that the recently presented Union Budget announced a growth fund of Rs. 10,000
crore for the MSME sector, which will greatly benefit the state's micro, small,
and medium enterprises. Nearly 10 million MSME units are operating in Uttar
Pradesh, and this sector is the largest provider of employment. Achieving the
goal of a trillion-dollar economy is impossible without empowering MSMEs.
Minister
Sachan stated that, as directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, special
efforts are being made to promote silk production in the state starting in
2022. Currently, the state produces approximately 300 to 350 metric tons of
silk, with a goal of continuously increasing it. Farmers are being trained and
connected to silk production, providing them with additional income
opportunities. Grants, training, and technical assistance are being provided to
silk producers through various schemes of the Government of India and the State
Government.
The
Center of Excellence will provide step-by-step, hands-on demonstrations of the
entire soil to silk process—from nursery development, mulberry
plantation, silkworm rearing, cocoon production, yarn spinning, to sari and
garment manufacturing. The goal is to educate consumers on identifying pure
silk, understanding its quality, and differentiating it from artificial or
blended silk.
This
center will serve as a training and awareness center, as well as an exhibition,
marketing, and sales center, where pure silk fabrics and garments will be sold
directly. This will provide a direct market for local weavers, artisans,
farmers, and self-help groups. The program was attended by the Additional Chief
Secretary, Horticulture and Silk Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, the
Special Secretary/Director (Silk), officials from the Central Silk Board
(Government of India), and scientists, along with departmental and technical
officials.
The
Yogi government has established a 'Centre of Excellence' in the silk industry
to modernise traditional and rural industries. Minister of Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises, Rakesh Sachan, inaugurated the center, which will showcase
the entire process of silk production, soil to silk. The center
will showcase all the processes from silkworm cocoon to yarn production and
fabric manufacturing, including eri, mulberry, and tussar silk, all under a
roof. Minister Sachan stated that the site, which was previously unused, has
now been modernized and will become a recognized center for the silk industry.
He also mentioned the announcement of a Rs.10,000 crore growth fund for the
micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) sector, which will benefit
Uttar Pradesh's MSMEs. Special efforts are being made starting in 2022 to
promote silk production in Uttar Pradesh, providing training and additional
income to farmers.
The
'Centre of Excellence' will also provide information to consumers on
identifying pure silk, understanding its quality and differentiating it from
fake silk. The centre will also serve as a training, awareness, exhibition and
sales centre, providing direct market access to local weavers, artisans,
farmers and self-help groups. The Additional Chief Secretary, Special
Secretary/Director (Silk), Horticulture and Sericulture Department and
officials from the Central Silk Board were also present at the event.
