Kolkata, 19 February (H.S.) : Kaizar Ahmed, a prominent Trinamool Congress leader from Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, on Thursday lodged a police complaint against his own party’s legislator from the Canning (Purba) Assembly constituency, Saokat Molla, accusing him of orchestrating a plot to have him killed.
In the complaint filed at Bhangar Police Station, Ahmed alleged that Molla had hired a contract killer to assassinate him. Besides submitting a written complaint, he also informed police authorities via email and urged them to register a First Information Report (FIR) based on his allegations and initiate appropriate legal action.
Ahmed specifically requested that the FIR be registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, including Section 173. He further sought police protection for himself and his family members, citing a threat to their lives.
Police officials confirmed that an investigation into the matter has been initiated. However, at the time of filing this report, there was no official reaction from Saokat Molla or any of his close associates regarding the allegations.
The development comes against the backdrop of a prolonged internal rivalry within the Trinamool Congress in the region. The party unit in the area has reportedly been divided into two factions, one led by Molla and the other by Ahmed.
In 2023, tensions had escalated after the party appointed Molla as the observer for the Bhangar Assembly constituency. Ahmed had objected to the move, arguing that Molla’s primary political base was in the neighbouring Canning (Purba) constituency and not in Bhangar.
Although the dispute had subsided following intervention by the state leadership, factional tensions have resurfaced ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled later this year. Close associates of Ahmed claimed that in recent months, supporters of Molla had allegedly begun interfering in organisational matters in Bhangar, leading to renewed discord within the party.
The investigation is currently underway, and further legal proceedings are awaited.
