Guwahati, 19 February (HS): Assam BJP President and MP Dilip Saikia on Wednesday alleged that Congress leaders in the state are resigning at the mere news of visits by senior party leaders from Delhi.
In a statement issued from the state BJP headquarters, Saikia said former Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Borah resigned and later joined the BJP following reports of visits by Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi. Several other Congress leaders have also stepped down, he claimed, adding that the trend of defections would continue.
Highlighting a contrasting scenario, Saikia said large numbers of leaders and workers from Congress and other parties joined the BJP during National President Nitin Nabin’s recent visit to Dibrugarh, reflecting growing public support for the party.-----------
