Guwahati, 17 February (HS): Senior Congress leader Bhupen Borah on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on his own party’s internal functioning, alleging after resignation from the party that deep-rooted factionalism and controversial associations have weakened the organisation in Assam. Borah claimed that recent developments have exposed what he termed the “hollow structure” within the Congress.

Referring to allegations surrounding MP Gaurav Gogoi, Borah said that the controversy over Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan link has triggered tremors within the party ranks. He asserted that the issue has not only embarrassed the state unit but also intensified mistrust among senior leaders.

Borah further questioned the political understanding between Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain, alleging that their alliance has pushed the party towards a path of decline. According to him, internal rivalries and leadership tussles have eroded the Congress’s grassroots strength at a time when unity was most required.

He also hinted at discord within the opposition camp, stating that differences in strategy and leadership ambitions have created hurdles in forging a cohesive alliance against the ruling party. Borah claimed that these developments have led to confusion among party workers and supporters.

In a sensational remark, Borah alleged that during a recent meeting at his residence, senior leaders Debabrata Saikia and Pradyut Bordoloi confronted Gaurav Gogoi over certain decisions, reflecting the depth of the internal rift.

Stating that he would “speak openly from the heart,” Borah indicated that he will soon reveal more details about the internal conflicts within the Congress, signalling further turbulence within the party ahead of the upcoming political battles.--------
