New Delhi, 12 February (H.S.): The ICC imposed a 15% match fee fine on Afghanistan's veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi on Thursday for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct by protesting an umpire's decision during Wednesday's T20 World Cup encounter against South Africa.

The incident unfolded in the 14th over of Afghanistan's innings when Nabi engaged in a prolonged altercation with umpires over South African pacer Lungi Ngidi's wristband. His dissent violated Article 2.4, concerning non-compliance with on-field umpire instructions.

In its statement, the ICC noted that Nabi accepted responsibility and the sanction proposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee David Gilbert, obviating a formal hearing. As his first offence in 24 months, one demerit point was added to his record.

The match ended in a tie after regulation overs, resolved by two Super Overs where South Africa prevailed to claim two points.
