Biswanath (Assam), 12 February (HS): Tension prevailed in Satiya of Biswanath district on Thursday after a Congress march was allegedly obstructed by BJP workers, leading to clashes and injuries to several party supporters.

According to sources, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had organized a march to Satiya as part of its political programme. Senior Congress leaders, including APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia, MP Rakibul Hussain, MLA Shivamani Bora and AICC secretary in charge of Assam Manoj Chauhan, along with party workers, were proceeding towards the venue.

The Congress alleged that supporters of BJP MLA Padma Hazarika unlawfully blocked the procession in Satiya. During the confrontation, some miscreants reportedly pelted stones at vehicles carrying Congress leaders and workers, resulting in injuries to several party members. A number of vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

As the situation escalated, a large team from Biswanath Chariali Police rushed to Borgang to bring the situation under control. The Congress later lodged an FIR against the alleged miscreants in connection with the incident.-----------
