Chennai, 12 February (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has leveled serious allegations against a private construction firm, claiming a massive real estate fraud worth ₹2,500 crore involving temple land in Chennai’s Korattur. Narayanan Thirupathy, the BJP’s State Chief Spokesperson, asserted that approximately 10,000 people have been cheated after a company titled Urban Rise allegedly constructed thousands of houses on land belonging to a local temple.
According to the allegations shared on social media, the firm built 2,036 houses on the disputed site while concealing the true ownership of the land from buyers. Thirupathy noted that a court verdict has recently confirmed the property belongs to the temple, leaving the families who purchased these homes in a state of distress. The BJP leader has demanded the immediate arrest and investigation of the company’s owners for systematically deceiving the public.
Beyond the construction firm, the BJP has raised sharp questions regarding the oversight of financial institutions and government departments. Thirupathy questioned how multiple banks sanctioned home loans for the project without conducting proper due diligence on the land titles. He called for a high-level probe into the conduct of bank officials and the Registration Department to determine how the documents were processed and approved.
The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department also faced criticism for its perceived failure to protect temple assets. Thirupathy argued that temple lands are being exploited by looters and challenged the state government's claims of safeguarding religious properties.
He concluded by urging the Tamil Nadu government to provide compensation and protection to the affected residents while taking strict action against those complicit in the alleged irregularities.
