People will decide on coalition or single party power in Tamil Nadu says Congress MP

Chennai, 11 February (H.S.) : Senior Congress leader and Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore stated on Wednesday that the electorate of Tamil Nadu will ultimately determine whether the state should have a coalition government or single party rule in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Highlighting the evolving political landscape, Tagore noted that the final decision rests with the citizens rather than political entities alone. His comments come at a time when discussions regarding power sharing and alliance dynamics are gaining momentum within the political circles of the state.

Reflecting on past political decisions, Tagore admitted that it was a mistake on the part of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee not to participate in the government formation following the 2006 Assembly elections. At that time, the DMK had formed a minority government with the external support of the Congress, which had won 34 seats.

Tagore indicated that failing to implement the people's verdict by joining the cabinet back then was a strategic lapse for the party. He shared these views through a post on the social media platform X, emphasizing that the party should learn from its history.

In the most recent 2021 Assembly elections, the Congress contested 25 seats as part of the DMK led alliance and emerged victorious in 18 constituencies. As the state prepares for the next electoral cycle, the MP's remarks suggest a shift in the party's stance regarding its role in a potential future alliance.

The statement has sparked interest as it underscores the growing aspirations of regional allies to seek a more direct share in governance and administrative power within the state of Tamil Nadu.
