
New Delhi, 08 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Thursday that startups and AI entrepreneurs serve as co-architects of India's future, urging the promotion of indigenous Indian AI models infused with local content and regional languages.
During a roundtable at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, PM Modi engaged 12 Indian AI startups selected for the AI for All: Global Impact Challenge at the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026. He emphasized India's boundless potential for innovation and large-scale tech deployment, advocating distinctive AI models embodying Made in India, Made for the World.
AI's transformative societal power positions India to lead the global tech landscape via next month's summit, with sustained efforts harnessing its potential ethically. PM Modi stressed that Indian AI must uphold ethics, fairness, transparency, and data privacy, prioritizing local/indigenous content and regional languages while championing affordable, inclusive, frugal innovation for global leadership.
Government commitment assures full support for these AI models' success. Participating startups—Avatar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gyaani, IntelliHealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra, and Zentech—praised India's robust AI ecosystem shifting global innovation toward India. They showcased advancements in Indian language foundation models, multilingual LLMs, speech-to-text, text-to-audio/video, generative AI 3D content, healthcare diagnostics, medical research, engineering simulation, and advanced data analytics.Union Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada attended the session.
