Bongaigaon (Assam), 7 January (HS): Bongaigaon Police have arrested three persons for allegedly creating an AI-generated image and uploading it on a WhatsApp status, which led to panic in the area. Police said on Wednesday that a WhatsApp status had recently gone viral showing visuals resembling an AK-47 rifle, causing concern among local residents.

Taking swift action, the police identified the individuals involved and verified the content as AI-generated synthetic media. Officials clarified that no real weapon was used or recovered in the case. Following the verification, three persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

The police administration stated that misuse of artificial intelligence to spread fear or misinformation is a serious offence. Citizens have been urged not to cross limits in the use of AI technology. An FIR has been registered in this regard and all the accused are being interrogated thoroughly.----------
