New Delhi, 06 January (H.S.): Domestic equity markets witnessed a volatile start on Tuesday, with both the Sensex and Nifty recovering from initial losses amid persistent two-way movement during early trading. The session began on a weak note as selling pressure weighed on the indices right after the opening bell.

However, intermittent buying interest from investors prevented a sharp decline, leading to a seesaw movement in both benchmarks.By 10 a.m., the BSE Sensex was trading 0.07% lower at 85,377.42 points, having recovered from an intraday low of 85,007.67 points. The Nifty 50, on the other hand, showed a marginal gain of 0.03%, trading at 26,257.60 points after bouncing back from an early trough of 26,144.70 points.

Among heavyweight stocks, ICICI Bank, Hindalco Industries, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Auto, and HDFC Life gained between 1.50% and 2.23%. In contrast, Trent Limited, Reliance Industries, TVS Motor Company, HDFC Bank, and ITC declined between 0.54% and 7.45%.

Active trading was seen in 2,240 stocks, with 1,025 advancing and 1,215 trading in the red. Within the Sensex, 19 out of 30 stocks were in positive territory, while 11 were under pressure. On the Nifty, 39 out of 50 stocks advanced, while 11 declined.The Sensex opened at 85,331.14 points, down 108.48 points, but quickly slipped to 85,007.67 points within the first few minutes due to aggressive selling.

Subsequent buying activity helped the index recover, closing the early session 62.20 points lower at 85,377.42 points.Similarly, the Nifty opened at 26,189.70 points, down 60.60 points, and fell further to 26,144.70 points in the initial minutes. Buying interest later emerged, pushing the index up to 26,257.60 points by 10 a.m., reflecting a modest gain of 7.30 points.On Monday, the Sensex had ended 322.39 points (0.38%) lower at 85,439.62 points, while the Nifty closed 78.25 points (0.30%) down at 26,250.30 points.
