New Delhi, 05 January (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed the Supreme Court’s recent verdict dismissing bail pleas of accused Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid in the Delhi riots case. Speaking to the media on Monday, Gupta stated, “Those who were involved in inciting violence and fueling riots in Delhi must face the strictest punishment. At the same time, political parties that provided support to such elements should also receive a strong message. They too are equally culpable.”
The Supreme Court refused to grant bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, accused in the conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots. The court observed that prima facie, a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) stands against them. However, the court granted bail to five other accused in the case.
