Delhi Riots: Asianet News Against Apex Court's Decision

Kochi, 05 January(HS): Asianet News, a Malayalam news channel, owned by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, president, Kerala BJP, has come down strongly on the Supreme Court dismissing the bail petition filed by Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, the prime accused in the 2020 Delhi Riots.

Though the Supreme Court made it unequivocally clear that there were enough evidence that substantiates the charges against the duo in planning and executing the Delhi Riots staged against the Citizens Amendment Act (CAA), the news reporter and reader of the channel said that the refusal of bail to Imam and Khalid were against human rights and liberty granted by the Constitution.

An average viewer, who may not be remembering about the seriousness of the riots that was staged to coincide with the State visit of US President Donald Trump, was told by the channel that the arrest of Imam and Khalid was part of State-sponsored terrorism.

The apex court refused bail to these extremists who were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 after a thorough probe into the riots that hogged international limelight. The forces behind the Delhi riots had worked round the clock to peddle fake reports that Imam , Khalid and five others who were held under the UAPA were innocent and hey were being victimized because of their religion. The Supreme Court granted bail to the other five persons who had been arrested along with the two extremists.

The Delhi Riots have been described as the “first of its kind urban warfare in India”, an investigation carried out by Monika Arora, a supreme court lawyer who is also the convener of the Group of Intellectuals and Academicians (GIA) and a team of fact finding mission.

The news telecast by Asianet is nothing new as the channel is in the forefront disseminating fake narratives and manufactured news targeting the NDA Government at center since 2014. They have appointed hardcore Marxists and Islamic terrorists as reporters and editors to air lies and fake news,” said Sunil Wadayar, veteran journalist.

He pointed out a recent instance when a Urban Maoist-cum-Christian fundamentalist by name Abjoth Varghese , a news reader working in asianet News declaring that he doesn’t want to live in the India of Mohan Madhukar (Bhagwat) and Ajay Mohan Bisht (Yogi Adityanath). What has shocked the Hindus in Kerala is the misuse of the channel space to telecast anti- Hindu and anti-BJP news despite Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s ownership of Asianet News.
