Chandigarh, 05 January (H.S.): Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two of his disciples, walked out of Sunaria jail in Rohtak on Monday after being granted a 40-day parole—the 15th such release since his conviction in 2017.
Singh will spend the duration of his parole at the Sirsa-headquartered Dera Sacha Sauda, confirmed Dera spokesperson and advocate Jitender Khurana. This latest parole marks another chapter in the controversial leader’s ongoing legal saga, which has drawn widespread public attention since his initial conviction.
In addition to the rape case, Singh and three others were also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist that occurred more than 16 years ago, further intensifying scrutiny around his activities and the Dera’s influence. His release comes amid ongoing debates about the frequency of parole grants for high-profile convicts, with critics questioning the fairness and transparency of the parole process.
Singh’s return to Sirsa is expected to draw significant attention from both supporters and detractors, as the Dera continues to play a prominent, albeit controversial, role in regional socio-political dynamics.
