Hooghly, 31 January (H.S.): A protest programme was organized on Saturday in front of the Rishra Municipality in Hooghly district by the BJP's Serampore Mandal Units Four and Five. The programme lasted for about three hours, during which strong voices were raised against various public problems in the municipal area.
Several BJP leaders and workers were present at the programme, including Ward No. 11 Councillor Shashi Singh Jha, Ward 10 Councillor Manoj Singh, and BJP leaders Santosh Singh, Vishwajit Singha, Amit Brahma, Hari Mishra, Vijay Upadhyay, and Satyendra Singh. During the protest, BJP leaders prominently raised issues such as encroachment in Rishra, the deadly pollution caused by burning garbage behind the police station, the drinking water crisis, and the dilapidated drainage system.
On this occasion, BJP Councillor Shashi Singh Jha said that illegal encroachment is continuously increasing in the Rishra municipal area, and the continuous open burning of garbage near the police station is seriously affecting the environment and people's health. These issues have been repeatedly raised in board meetings, but no solution has been found even after a long time. Complaints have also been repeatedly filed at Rishra police station regarding the severe pollution caused by burning garbage, but to no avail. The BJP leader also spoke out against the lack of women's safety and the deplorable condition of Hindus in West Bengal.
After the protest, a BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to the senior official of the municipality outlining all these demands. BJP leaders warned that if the problems are not resolved soon, the agitation will be intensified.
