
Haridwar, January 31 (HS): Under the ongoing Operation Kalnemi being carried out across the state, Ranipur Kotwali police have arrested 11 persons.
It may be noted that the state government has launched Operation Kalnemi across the state. Acting under the drive, Ranipur Kotwali police arrested 11 fake godmen allegedly involved in cheating people under the guise of religion.
Police said on Saturday that during a checking drive conducted in areas including Shivalik Nagar and Gas Plant, a total of 11 suspicious persons were apprehended for allegedly committing fraud in the name of religion and for residing without valid identity documents. All the accused have been challaned.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shivam Nath (38), son of Bholanath; Vansh Nath (18), son of Shivam Nath, residents of Ghosipura under Pathri police station, Haridwar; Gulmati (20), son of Ashok Nath, resident of Gehsupura under Pathri police station, Haridwar; Jainuddin (26), son of Menukuddin, resident of Kalka Siya village in Barpeta district of Assam, currently residing in a jhuggi near Mayawati Chowk, Shivalik Nagar; Noor Mohammad (52), son of Nuru, resident of Ahabab Nagar under Jwalapur Kotwali, Haridwar; Bhashan Ali (29), son of Abdul Ali, resident of Horisar, Assam, currently staying in a jhuggi near Mayawati Chowk, Shivalik Nagar; Bhavesh (33), son of Mahali, resident of Mahashiya Pura under Keshiri police station in West Medinipur, Kolkata; Hanif (41), son of Hasan Ali, resident of Kismat Mainbari under Kalka Siya police station in Assam, presently residing in Brahmpuri under SIDCUL police station, Haridwar; Sher Ali (36), son of Asanuddin, resident of Satla village under Kalka Siya police station in Assam, currently living in Brahmpuri, SIDCUL area; Boni Israel (54), son of Shorab Ali, resident of Jupiya Madarsa Para under Merursar police station in Assam, presently residing in Brahmpuri, SIDCUL; and Abdul Kalam (40), son of Kiraumat Ali, resident of Khatartri village under Kalka Siya police station in Assam.
Further legal action is underway, police said.
