Bhubaneswar, 31 January (H.S.): At least five people were killed in a major road accident at Haladiapadar Square in Odisha’s Berhampur on Saturday after a truck rammed into three motorcycles on a National Highway.

According to preliminary reports, the truck was travelling on the wrong side of the highway when it collided with multiple two-wheelers. The impact was severe, with the heavy vehicle reportedly running over the victims, leading to instant fatalities. Bodies were found scattered across the roadway, triggering panic among commuters and bringing traffic to a complete halt.

Around eight others sustained injuries in the collision and were immediately shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical in some cases.

Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident to manage the situation and restore traffic movement. An investigation has been launched to establish the identities of the deceased and to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.
