Thiruvananthapuram, 03 Jan (H.S.):Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) recorded a record turnover of ₹82 crore during the Christmas–New Year festive season, reflecting strong consumer response to its subsidised pricing and special fairs across the State.

According to official data, sales between December 22 and January 1—a 10-day period that included a Christmas Day holiday—touched ₹82 crore, of which ₹36.06 crore came from subsidised essential commodities. The figures cover sales from Supplyco outlets, retail counters attached to petrol pumps, and special festive fairs organised in six districts.

Special Christmas–New Year fairs were held at Putharikandam Nayanar Park in Thiruvananthapuram, Marine Drive in Ernakulam, Asramam Maidanam in Kollam, Thirunakkara Maidanam in Kottayam, Rose Mount Auditorium in Pathanamthitta and Thekkinkadu Maidanam in Thrissur. These venues witnessed heavy footfall as consumers took advantage of festive discounts and subsidised rates.

During the fairs, Supplyco offered branded daily-use products at discounts ranging from 5% to 50%, attracting large crowds despite competition from the open market. Sales from the special fairs alone amounted to ₹74 lakh, highlighting their popularity.

Of the total turnover at the fairs, ₹40.94 lakh came from subsidised items, while ₹33.06 lakh was from non-subsidised products. The highest sales were recorded at the Putharikandam fair in Thiruvananthapuram, which registered a turnover of ₹29.31 lakh, including ₹16.19 lakh worth of subsidised essential commodities.

Officials said the festive sales drive not only boosted Supplyco’s revenue but also helped curb price rise in the open market by ensuring the availability of essential goods at affordable rates during a period of high demand.

The strong performance during the Christmas–New Year season reaffirmed Supplyco’s role as a key price-stabilising agency in Kerala, particularly during festive periods when household consumption typically sees a sharp increase.
