Peshawar, Pakistan, 24 January (H.S.): A suicide bombing ripped through a jubilant wedding gathering in Pakistan's volatile northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday night, claiming at least five lives—including a prominent peace committee chief—and injuring ten others as rescuers battled collapsed debris to reach the trapped.

The ferocious blast erupted amid dancing guests at the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud near Qureshi Morr in Dera Ismail Khan district, triggering the room's roof to cave in and complicating frantic extraction efforts, according to District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada, who confirmed the attacker's self-detonation.

Rescue Frenzy and Official Fury

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi reported that seven ambulances, a fire truck, and a disaster vehicle rushed to the scene post-alert, ferrying the five deceased and ten wounded to the District Headquarters Hospital, where an emergency was declared to manage the influx.

Authorities swiftly sealed the perimeter and initiated a probe, with early accounts identifying peace committee leader Waheedullah Mehsud—known as Jigri Mehsud—as among the fatalities, underscoring militants' targeting of anti-Taliban activists in the restive region.
