Vande Mataram's Resonant Echo: Culture Ministry Unveils 150th Anniversary Tableau for Republic Day Parade

New Delhi, 22 January (H.S.): The Ministry of Culture will present a special tableau themed '150 Years of Vande Mataram' during the Republic Day parade on Thursday, showcasing the national song as a living embodiment of India's civilizational memory, collective consciousness, and cultural continuity.

Tableau's Significance

Ministry Secretary Vivek Agrawal stated that India's tableaux serve not as mere formal displays but as ambulatory records of the nation's civilizational heritage, with culture forming the vibrant soul of the republic rather than mere ornamentation.

Unlike other tableaux highlighting achievements, this one weaves ideas and historical experiences into a shared visual narrative.Agrawal emphasized Vande Mataram's profound role, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875 as more than a composition but a spiritual force.

Sri Aurobindo regarded it as a mantra awakening collective consciousness, invoking imagery of 'sujalam suphalam' to envision the nation as mother, instilling self-respect and courage among Indians during colonial rule.

Tableau Features

The front of the tableau will display the original manuscript of Vande Mataram, accompanied by folk artists from across India's four directions to exhibit the nation's diversity. Since 2021, the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has been tasked with conceptualizing and constructing this tableau.

IGNCA Member Secretary Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi noted that this presentation represents the collective emotions of the entire nation, not just one department. He described the Republic Day 2026 float as an effort to connect the echoes of the freedom struggle with present duties and future aspirations, transforming Vande Mataram into a proclamation of a strong, undivided India.

Cultural Reaffirmation

Dr. Joshi added that through this 150-year journey, the ministry aims to reestablish the national song as a symbol of unity and eternal consciousness, reminding citizens of independence while calling them to remain worthy of it.
