DAVOS, Switzerland, 22 January (H.S.): California Governor Gavin Newsom alleged on Wednesday, January 21, that the Trump administration orchestrated the abrupt cancellation of his scheduled appearance at the USA House pavilion during the World Economic Forum, denying him a platform despite an invitation from Fortune magazine as its official media partner.

Newsom's office asserted that USA House—curated by the White House and State Department—succumbed to pressure, informing organizers moments before the fireside chat that his participation as an elected official clashed with afternoon programming, proffering only a nighttime reception slot as consolation. California was just denied at the USA House. Last we checked, California is part of USA, Newsom posted on X, lambasting the move as weak and pathetic fear of discourse, while his team confirmed the early-month invitation and promotional buildup.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly derided Newsom as third-rate governor Newscum, urging focus on California's homelessness, wildfires, and budgets over frolicking abroad, as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mocked him onsite; Trump, acknowledging Newsom's presence during his keynote, reminisced past rapport yet dismissed the address as boorish and inconsequential per the governor, amid his 2028 presidential speculation.

Fortune corroborated extending the invite but deferred to USA House's venue control, fueling partisan tensions at the summit.
