
Bhubaneswar, 21 January (H.S.): A second-year postgraduate student of Economics at Sambalpur University was found dead in his hostel room late Tuesday night, with police suspecting suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Suraj Kujur, a resident of the Kutra area in Sundargarh district. He was staying at the university’s Brahmaputra Hostel.
According to sources, Kujur’s body was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan in Room No. 52 by hostel authorities. The incident was immediately reported to the university administration, following which the Burla police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and began an investigation.
While preliminary findings suggest suicide, the police have initiated a detailed probe to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the student’s mental state and any factors that may have led to the incident.
Confirming the development, Sambalpur University Registrar Pradeep Naik stated that the police were informed without delay and that the family members of the deceased student have also been notified.
