Kolkata, 20 January (H.S.): BJP IT Cell chief and co-in-charge of West Bengal, Amit Malviya, slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government over their absence from the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos. On Tuesday, he claimed on the social media platform X that while chief ministers of several states were present at the global meeting in Davos, the West Bengal government was completely absent.
In his post, Amit Malviya stated that leaders like Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma were present on the global stage representing their respective states, while the Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee neither received an invitation nor sent any delegation.
The BJP leader termed this a neglect of Bengal on the global stage, saying it was a result of the Mamata Banerjee government's mismanagement and alleged industrial decline, which has pushed the state backward economically. He alleged that while other states are showcasing their achievements in investment and development to the world, the Bengal government is completely absent from this important platform.
Malviya also alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee limits her foreign trips to mere publicity and photo opportunities. He said that some statements made during her trips to places like Spain and London were insulting to the country's freedom fighters and promoted a colonial mindset. Despite this, when it comes to global investment and economic opportunities, Bengal fails to find a place on platforms like Davos.
In his post, Amit Malviya said that Bengal's empty chair at Davos reflects a major economic failure that the Trinamool Congress wants to hide from the public. He claimed that the state needs a leadership that can put Bengal on the global map.
Finally, Malviya referred to the year 2026, saying that in the coming times, Bengal will be brought back on the path of development and glory through a double-engine government. However, there has been no official reaction from the Trinamool Congress or the West Bengal government regarding the BJP leader's post.
