
Bhubaneswar, 02 January (H.S.): A youth was killed in a wild elephant attack at Bhuasunipatna village under Begunia police station in Khordha district on Friday, triggering panic among local residents. The deceased has been identified as Priyabrata Parida.
According to sources, a herd of around 15 elephants had been roaming in areas close to the village, causing fear among villagers. The herd reportedly entered the village vicinity on Thursday night, damaging crops and property and forcing residents to remain alert.
On Friday morning, villagers attempted to drive the elephants away from the area. During the effort, a tusker from the herd suddenly attacked the youth and trampled him, killing him on the spot.
Following the incident, officials of the Forest Department rushed to the location, recovered the body and initiated necessary procedures. The department has intensified monitoring of the elephant herd and taken steps to prevent further incidents.
