No rift in NC, differences with Ruhullah only in approach: Choudhary Ramzan

Srinagar, 02 January (H.S.): National Conference (NC) Rajya Sabha member Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan today said that there is no rift within the party, saying differences with fellow NC MP Agha Ruhullah are purely a matter of approach.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “There is no rift. Agha Ruhullah is not against the party. He has the same objectives as us, but his approach is different. He is very young, has hot blood, and wants everything to be done quickly.”

Ramzan added that he and Ruhullah frequently meet to discuss matters. “Inshallah, the differences will decrease. We keep meeting each other. We meet Ruhullah, and he also comes to me. We often have meetings. During the recent 14-day Parliament session, we had only seven to eight days of work during which we spoke. I did not think he was against the National Conference or its leadership. There is nothing like that in his heart. He just wanted to approach the issues separately. Everyone wants the same thing-whatever he wants and what the leadership wants is the same,” he said.

On his recent engagements in Parliament and with the Home Minister, Ramzan said, “We gave a proper memorandum, not secretly. The Home Minister’s response was very positive. He told us that a lot of progress will be made in December on various issues, not only on one thing (statehood). I do not want to spell out what he said. It has been 10-12 days since we met, and I do not think there will be any delay.”

He said the Chief Minister is scheduled to meet the Home Minister soon, and “he will discuss how to solve the problems of our people when he returns from his tour.”

Clarifying reports about another meeting with the Home Minister, Ramzan said, “We often meet in Parliament. I did not meet him in Goa. There is a meeting in Port Blair with all members of the Home Affairs Consultative Committee. The Home Minister is not going alone; many Parliament members are going. I also represent Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha. God willing, many issues will be taken up there as well.”

On his priorities as Additional General Secretary, he said, “The biggest thing is that our workers are active everywhere. They work hard. The pressure of the National Conference is the only thing they can tolerate. My focus is to meet workers in remote areas of Kashmir, from Kishtwar to Poonch, Rajouri, and Tangdhar. I want to know about their problems, developmental issues, and personal matters, which I will later convey to the leadership. We will meet all workers and party leaders across Kashmir.”
