Kolkata, 02 January (H.S.): To maintain law and order and ensure road safety on New Year's Day, January 1, 2026, the Kolkata Police and Traffic Department conducted a comprehensive operation. During this operation, 75 people were arrested. However, no prohibited firecrackers or illegal liquor were seized during the drive.

According to data released by the police, a total of 661 cases were registered for traffic violations on New Year's Day. The highest number of cases, 212, were registered for riding without a helmet.

In addition, 88 cases were registered for triple riding, 109 for speeding and reckless driving, and 95 for drunk driving. Action was taken against 157 people for other various violations.

Police officials stated that special surveillance was maintained to prevent any kind of disorder and accidents during the New Year celebrations. Similar campaigns to enforce traffic rules will continue in the future.
