
Guwahati, 2 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to legendary freedom fighter, litterateur and social reformer Ambikagiri Raichoudhury on his punyatithi, remembering his immense contribution to Assam and the nation.
In his tribute on social media, the Chief Minister recalled Ambikagiri Raichoudhury as one of the most prominent personalities of 20th-century Assam — a poet, lyricist, singer, prose writer, journalist, magazine editor and committed social worker, besides being a fearless participant in India’s freedom struggle.
Dr Sarma noted that Ambikagiri Raichoudhury was honoured with the title ‘Assam Kesari’ for his powerful voice in defence of Assam and Assamese identity and for his relentless efforts to awaken social and national consciousness among the people.
The Chief Minister stated that the life, ideals and literary works of Ambikagiri Raichoudhury continue to inspire generations to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation, and offer deep respect to the departed soul on the sacred occasion.----------
