New Delhi/Lakshadweep, 18 January (H.S.): The Indian Navy on Sunday announced the triumphant conclusion of a pioneering five-day Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp across the remote Lakshadweep Islands, culminating on January 16 after its inauguration on January 12.

Spanning Kavaratti, Agatti, Amini, Androth, and Minicoy islands, the initiative—bolstered by seamless collaboration with the Union Territory's civil administration and healthcare authorities—delivered advanced care to 4,719 patients through an unprecedented array of specialists and super-specialists.

For the first time in Lakshadweep's history, such a comprehensive camp featured experts in Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology, complemented by professionals in Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Dental Surgery, Radiology, and Community Medicine.

Logistical excellence defined the operation, with swift airlifts and sealifts deploying medical teams and sophisticated equipment to establish fully operational facilities on each island, exemplifying tri-services synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Clinical interventions proved transformative: 51 general surgical procedures curbed mainland referrals, while 71 cataract surgeries restored vision for elderly residents; diagnostics encompassed over 50 endoscopic procedures, more than 50 echocardiograms, multiple treadmill tests, 250 ultrasound scans, 100 dental treatments, and 30 minor dermatological interventions—all provided free of charge.

As enduring legacies, the Navy donated two ECG machines to facilities in Agatti and Amini, while extensive Information, Education, and Communication sessions promoted preventive health, healthy lifestyles, cancer awareness, mental wellness, and Basic Life Support training. Hailed by islanders and administrators alike for its scale, professionalism, and impact, the camp underscores the Armed Forces' steadfast dedication to equitable healthcare in India's farthest frontiers, fortifying national well-being through unified service .
