Six Of A Family, Including Three Children, Charred To Death In Devastating Himachal House Fire

Shimla, 15 January (H.S.): Just two days after a tragic blaze in Arki bazaar of Solan district, Himachal Pradesh has been shaken by another horrific fire incident, this time in Sirmaur district, where six members of the same family, including three young children, were burnt alive late on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in Talagna village under Gram Panchayat Ghanduri, in Nohra Dhar tehsil of Sangrah subdivision, falling in the Renuka Assembly constituency, plunging the entire area into deep shock and mourning.

According to information received from the administration, the massive fire broke out suddenly in the residential house of Mohan Singh, son of Ramdayal, located under Patwar circle Ghanduri, Nohra Dhar tehsil, while seven people were inside the building. The flames spread so rapidly that the sleeping occupants had virtually no time to escape.

Six people were burnt alive on the spot, while one person was rescued by local villagers in a critical condition. The injured has been identified as 42-year-old Lokendra, a resident of village Khumra, tehsil Chopal, district Shimla. After first aid, he was referred from Nohra Dhar to a hospital in Solan, where his condition remains serious.

The deceased have been identified as Naresh (son of Durga Singh, resident of Taproli, Rajgarh), his wife Tripta, and Kavita (wife of Lokendra, resident of Khumra, Chopal), along with three minor children – Sarika, Kritika and Kritik. Reports suggest that all of them had come as guests to Mohan Singh’s house, which was Kavita’s parental home.

The ferocity of the blaze was such that the bodies were badly charred, making identification extremely difficult.Local residents said that between 2 am and 3 am, they suddenly noticed thick smoke and towering flames rising from the house. The village is located in a remote hilly area and the house was largely wooden, which allowed the fire to assume a fierce form within minutes. Villagers raised an alarm and made desperate efforts to douse the flames and rescue the occupants, but the intensity of the fire left them helpless.

On receiving information, police, administrative officials and relief teams reached the spot and eventually brought the fire under control.Initial investigation suggests that the blaze may have been triggered by a short circuit. It is also being reported that an LPG cylinder exploded after catching fire, causing the entire house to be reduced to ashes. Some domestic animals are also feared to have perished in the inferno.

Administrative officers are present at the site, overseeing rescue and relief operations and conducting a detailed inquiry into the exact cause and circumstances of the incident.
