
Mumbai, 14 Jan (HS): The Bombay High Court has
rejected petition against the candidates who were elected unopposed, and demanding
making available option of ‘NOTA’ to the voters. The Court also expressed anger
over wrongly filed petition to it.
During hearing the petition was similar to those
already pending. The petitioner’s lawyer said that the petition relating to
election is different, to which Justice Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A
Khand expressed discontent and said that the petition is not different and the
court should not be given wrong information. The Court also said that penl
action can be initiated in such cases. However, the petition was rejected
without imposing any fine.
In Maharashtra 66 candidates were declared elected
unopposed. The polling in 29 municipal corporations is scheduled for January
15. Formal declaration of their election by the authorities will be made on
January 16. Out of the 66 elected unopposed BJP is leading with 44, followed by
Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) 19, NCP (Ajita Pawar) 2 and one from Islam Party in
Malegan.
