Tamulpur (Assam), 13 September (HS): Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari, while attending a personal event at Senchapani in Tamulpur, shared his views with the media on the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

Daimari said that the people should take charge in the BTC polls and every political party must contribute towards community welfare through the democratic process. He noted that an anti-establishment sentiment is likely to play a role in the elections, but ultimately, it will be the people’s decision.

Highlighting BJP’s election manifesto, Daimari said that the party has proposed to bring changes in the BTC system by ensuring that representatives are elected directly. He also urged all political parties to ensure peace and protect the rights of their workers during the polls.

“Everyone has the right to vote freely and support whoever they choose. Political parties must take care of their workers and ensure peaceful elections,” he said.

Speaking of his role, Daimari said that as Speaker of the Assam Assembly and a BJP leader from the BTC region, his name often comes up in discussions about BTC leadership. However, he clarified that the decision on who will lead if BJP wins a majority will only be taken after the elections.
