In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking, New Barrackpore Police in North 24 Parganas district arrested two individuals and seized over 23.658 kilograms of cannabis during a raid conducted on Wednesday, August 6. Acting on a confidential tip-off, police intercepted a three-wheeler vehicle in the Bodai area and recovered the contraband.

According to police sources, a joint operation was launched based on intelligence inputs that led to the interception of a three-wheeler (Registration No. WB 25A 4846) suspected of carrying illegal narcotics. A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 23 kg 658 grams of a ganja-like substance, hidden within the vehicle.

The two accused, identified as Amit Hela (38) and Tapu Biswas (33), were arrested on the spot. Amit Hela is the son of Ramkishore Hela and resides in Hemanta Nagar, Shantir Jhil Para, PO Jugberia, under New Barrackpore Police Station, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata - 700110. Tapu Biswas, the son of Bhagirath Biswas, is also a resident of the same locality.

The seized narcotics and the vehicle have been taken into custody in accordance with legal procedures. A case has been registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act at the New Barrackpore Police Station.

Police officials are currently investigating the extent of the trafficking network and suspect that the accused may be linked to a larger drug syndicate. Further interrogations are underway, and additional arrests are likely in the coming days.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and assured that such operations will continue across the region.
