New Delhi, August 4 (HS): Strong signals from the global market, coupled with a decline in crude oil prices, contributed to a positive trend in the domestic stock market today, marked by significant rallying in metal and automobile sector stocks. Trading commenced with vigor, though the first hour experienced volatility as buyers and sellers battled for dominance. Shortly before 11 AM, buyers took the lead, propelling the market upward.

By the close of trading, the Sensex ended up 0.52 percent, and the Nifty rose by 0.64 percent. Real estate, metal, defense, and automobile stocks saw consistent buying, while the banking, IT, capital goods, consumer durables, healthcare, oil and gas, and public sector indices also performed well. However, the FMCG sector experienced selling pressure. Broader market gains were reflected in the BSE Midcap index, which closed up 1.11 percent, and the Smallcap index, which increased by 0.76 percent.

The overall market strength increased investors' wealth by over ₹4 lakh crore, raising the market capitalization of companies on the BSE to ₹448.82 lakh crore from ₹444.52 lakh crore at the end of last week, yielding a profit of approximately ₹4.30 lakh crore from today’s trading.In the trading session, 4,286 stocks were actively traded on the BSE, with 2,286 gaining and 1,847 declining, while 153 stocks remained unchanged. On the NSE, 2,716 stocks were traded, resulting in 1,637 gains and 1,079 losses. Among the Sensex constituents, 25 out of 30 stocks closed higher, whereas 43 of 50 Nifty stocks ended in positive territory.

The BSE's Sensex commenced trading with a gain of 165.92 points at 80,765.83 points but briefly dipped to 80,500.51 points due to selling pressure. Subsequently, buyer support lifted the index, peaking at 81,093.19 points before closing up 418.81 points at 81,018.72. The NSE's Nifty, starting at 24,596.05 points, also experienced early volatility, dropping to 24,554 points before rallying to 24,736.25 points and finally closing at 24,722.75 points, up by 157.40 points.

Top gainers today included Hero MotoCorp (+5.20%), Tata Steel (+4.28%), and Bharat Electronics (+3.27%). Conversely, losses were reflected in Power Grid Corporation (-1.13%) and HDFC Bank (-1%).
