New Delhi, August 22 (HS): The nomination papers of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan and Opposition-backed INDIA bloc nominee B. Sudarshan Reddy have been officially accepted for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
According to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Returning Officer and Secretary General P.C. Mody scrutinized the nomination papers and declared those filed by Radhakrishnan and Reddy as valid.
The process for the Vice Presidential election commenced on August 7 following a notification from the Election Commission of India. The deadline for filing nominations closed on August 21, with scrutiny held on August 22. During this period, 46 aspirants filed a total of 68 nomination papers.
Out of these, 28 papers submitted by 19 candidates were already rejected on procedural grounds. The remaining 40 nomination papers filed by 27 aspirants underwent scrutiny on August 22, during which several more were found invalid. Finally, only two candidates—C.P. Radhakrishnan and Buchireddy Sudarshan Reddy—emerged with valid nominations.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with counting of votes to take place on the same day.
