Mumbai, 19 Aug (HS): Mumbai received 200 mm of rain during six hours, and
350 mm during the last 24 hours. The situation is like a cloud burst flooding
several areas. The municipality is using 525 pumps to drain out water from many
low-lying areas, said Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after reviewing the
situation at the Emergency Department. He directed the deployment of more pumps to
drain out water.
Shinde addressed a press conference with Municipal Commissioner Bhushan
Gagrani and Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar. Earlier, he reviewed the Mithi
River and landslide-prone areas in Krantinagar in Kurla and Vikroli Park Site.
About 350 people were shifted to safer sites following a rise in the level of the Mithi
River up to 3.9 meters. Arrangements for food and medical services have been
made, Shinde said.
Additional buses will be arranged if local train services are affected
due to heavy rains, Shinde said.
Shinde also reviewed the situation across the state.
