Delhi, 18 August (H.S.): An Air India flight AI 504, scheduled to depart from Kochi to Delhi, experienced a delay due to a technical issue that led to the aircraft aborting takeoff and returning to the bay. The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) announced that the revised departure time would be at 1:00 am on Monday. CIAL stated that Air India was rectifying the issue and changing the aircraft, with the expected new departure time provided.
Congress MP Hibi Eden, a passenger on the flight, reported on social media that it felt like the aircraft skidded on the runway. Rajya Sabha MP Jebi Mather confirmed the pilot's announcement that this aircraft was no longer suitable for travel. Air India stated that the decision to discontinue the takeoff was made following Standard Operating Procedures, prompting the aircraft's return for maintenance checks. An alternative aircraft was being arranged for passenger transport.
Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, emphasizing their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew. This incident follows a previous cancellation of Flight AI138 from Milan to Delhi on August 16 due to a maintenance issue identified during pushback. Air India highlighted their efforts to assist affected passengers by providing hotel accommodations and offering refunds or rescheduling options.
