Agartala, 9 July (HS): The nationwide strike called by ten central trade unions did not have any significant impact in Tripura. Life remained normal in the state and all institutions remained open as usual. The Bharatiya Janata Party has described it as a sign of the people rejecting old and irrelevant politics.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, state secretary Tapas Majumdar said that the people of Tripura completely rejected this bandh. Schools, colleges, banks and offices all remained open normally. No untoward incident has been reported in the state.
He said that attempts were made to disrupt life in some areas, but the administration immediately brought the situation under control.
Majumdar launched a scathing attack on left-backed trade unions, especially CITU, saying that they were spreading false stories of the band being successful. There is a huge difference between what is happening on the ground and what these leaders are saying. The people of Tripura have now moved beyond the politics of the past.
He attributed the public's indifference towards the bandh to the development schemes of the BJP government. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the pace of development in the state has increased. Welfare schemes are reaching the poorest of the poor.
Accusing leftist organizations of obstructing the pace of development, he said, Such bandhs are a failed attempt to maintain their relevance. But the public has now made it clear that they want development, not protest.
