Delhi, 6 July (H.S.): PM Modi expressed sincere gratitude to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the successful organization of the 17th BRICS Summit on Sunday, highlighting the renewed vigor in BRICS cooperation under Brazil's chairmanship. He congratulated President Prabowo on Indonesia's inclusion in BRICS and addressed the inequities faced by the Global South regarding development, resource distribution, and security concerns.PM Modi emphasized that the Global South often receives only token gestures in crucial areas like climate finance.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote,At the Session on ‘Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance’ during the BRICS Summit, reiterated India’s commitment to the values of peace and brotherhood. Afterall, world peace and security are the foundations of our shared interests and future.

He pointed out that two-thirds of humanity lack adequate representation in global institutions established in the 20th century, which undermines their credibility and effectiveness. Without the Global South, these institutions are ineffective and unable to address current global issues—ranging from conflicts to economic crises. The need for a new multipolar and inclusive world order is urgent, requiring substantial reforms in governance structures, voting rights, and leadership in these institutions.

PM Modi advocated for visible, meaningful reforms, particularly for the UN Security Council, WTO, and Multilateral Development Banks, stressing that the pace of technological advancements demands contemporary institutions, not outdated frameworks. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to prioritize the interests of the Global South and contribute constructively alongside BRICS nations in global matters.

The summit in Brazil on July 6-7 addressed crucial global topics like multilateralism, artificial intelligence, climate action, peace and security, and economic resilience. PM Modi engaged in discussions with fellow leaders on these issues.
