Kamrup (Assam), 31 July (HS): A man was killed and his wife critically injured in a brutal knife attack by a thief who broke into their house early hours of Thursday in Alekzari village under Kamalpur police station.

According to police sources, the incident took place. The accused has been identified as Kapil Das, allegedly entered the house of Shankar Das with the intention to steal. He reportedly went straight to the bedroom and attacked Shankar Das and his wife Geetima Das with a sharp knife while they were asleep.

Local residents rushed to the house after hearing cries for help and immediately took the couple to the hospital. However, Shankar Das succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while his wife remains in critical condition.

Villagers claim that the accused, Kapil Das, has a history of similar criminal activities. This time, he was caught by local people while trying to flee and was handed over to Kamalpur police.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
