Nadia, 1 August (H.S.) Due to continuous rain, drains have overflowed in various areas of Ward 14 of Krishnanagar, due to which dirty water is flowing on the roads. It has become impossible to pass through the submerged roads.
This problem is especially clearly seen in Bagdi Pada, Chunari Pada and Nalua Pada areas of Ward 14. Due to dirty water flowing on the roads, students going to school and college, patients going to doctors and their family members and working people are facing extreme difficulty in walking in the filthy water.
Taufiq Ahmed, a resident of Nalua Pada, said that the drains overflow even with a little heavy rain. That dirty water remains accumulated on the roads for a long time. Sometimes, the water enters the houses. It becomes difficult to go out of the houses. The infestation of mosquitoes and flies has increased a lot. I am afraid that mosquito-borne diseases will spread.
Buddhadev Malakar, a shopkeeper in the Bagdi Pada area, said, The drain is now filled with water up to about half the knee. Sometimes the stairs of the shop also get submerged in water. No one wants to come to the shop through such dirty water in front of the shop, so I am not able to work. Even after the water recedes, the trouble is endless, the place becomes completely slippery and starts smelling foul.
Most of the locals of the area said that the roads have been in bad condition for a long time and the problem of dirty water in this drain has made it difficult to live in the area. Despite informing the councillor and the municipality several times, the problem has not been resolved. To get rid of this problem every year, all the drains should be renovated and a better drainage system should be made.
Ward No. 14 councillor Shantashree Saha said, The cleaning of the drain is done occasionally. Due to too much garbage being dumped in the drain, the drain has become clogged and water is coming on the road. There are problems at some places, and efforts will be made to solve them as soon as possible. Such overflowing of drains and accumulation of dirty water on the roads not only causes environmental pollution but also poses a serious threat to the health of the local people. Residents of Ward No. 14 have demanded immediate action from the administration.
