Delhi, 31 July (H.S.): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved four railway projects totaling approximately Rs. 11,169 crore. The projects are: Itarsi–Nagpur 4th Line, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) - Parbhani Doubling, Aluabari Road-New Jalpaiguri 3rd and 4th Line, and Dangoaposi-Jaroli 3rd and 4th Line.
These initiatives aim to enhance mobility, operational efficiency, and service reliability for Indian Railways through increased line capacity. They align with the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” promoting comprehensive regional development and boosting employment. Planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects emphasize multi-modal connectivity and logistic efficiency, facilitating seamless movement for people and goods.
Covering 13 districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand, the projects will expand the Indian Railways network by about 574 kilometers, connecting approximately 2,309 villages with a population of around 4.36 million. Critical for transporting various commodities, the capacity upgrades will accommodate an additional freight traffic of 95.91 MTPA, contributing to environmental goals by reducing logistics costs, oil imports, and CO2 emissions equivalent to the planting of 20 crore trees.
