Chennai, 3 July (H.S.): In a significant bust, authorities at Chennai International Airport have seized two gibbons that were smuggled from Bangkok. The incident marks the second attempt to smuggle wildlife through the airport in just two weeks, raising concerns about the effectiveness of security measures.

According to reports, the gibbons were being transported in small cages hidden inside a passenger's luggage. Airport officials flagged the suspicious consignment and seized the animals. The would-be smuggler was subsequently detained for questioning.

The seized gibbons have been handed over to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre for care and treatment. Officials are investigating the smuggling attempt, including identifying the individuals and networks involved.
