Udalguri, 3 July (HS): In a major push for inclusive development, the Assam government has announced the rollout of five key welfare schemes designed to empower economically weaker sections, including unemployed youth, women, and tea garden workers. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a review meeting held at the Udalguri DC office on Thursday.

One of the flagship schemes, Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Asom, will extend financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to more than 2.5 lakh unemployed youths from Udalguri district. The initiative is intended to foster self-reliance and reduce economic dependency through self-employment.

Financial aid will also be extended to 1 lakh families under the Arunodoi Scheme, which offers monthly support to ease financial stress. Meanwhile, women from over 1.07 lakh Self-Help Groups will benefit from the Mukhyamantri Mohila Udyamita Scheme, launching in August, with ₹10,000 grants aimed at supporting micro-enterprises.

Tea garden workers statewide are not left behind. The Ati Koli Duti pat Scheme will provide ₹5,000 to each worker, enhancing their financial security. Alongside these, the government plans to issue 4,000 new ration cards in every Assembly constituency, aiming to improve access to subsidised food items and essentials.

The Chief Minister's stop in Udalguri is part of his broader BTR tour. He will review welfare implementation in Tamulpur on July 4, Baksa on July 5, Chirang on July 7, and Kokrajhar on July 8. These visits are focused on ensuring the timely rollout of development programmes across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
