July (HS): The great-grandson of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Dr Deepak Tilak,
passed away at his residence in Pune in the early morning on Wednesday. He was
74. He is survived by a son, Rohit Tilak, a daughter, and grandchildren. The last
rites will be performed at Vaikuntha Ghat at approximately 12 noon.
Dr Deepak
was the Trustee and Managing Editor of the daily ‘Kesari’ started by Lokmanya Tilak. For a brief period, he was also the Vice-Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra University.
He was the son of late Jayantrao Tilak, former MP (12 years) and former
Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council (16 years). Dr Deepak’s mother, Indutai, was a social activist and guide for many educational institutions.

Tilak was honoured in 2021 by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for
distinguished contribution in promoting the Japanese language in India.
