Delhi, 1 June (H.S.): The 25th edition of Fit India Sundays, marking the Tiranga Cycling Rally, took place nationwide this morning with over 15,000 cyclists participating from more than 5,000 locations. This event combined patriotism, fitness, and environmental consciousness in tribute to India’s armed forces. Hon’ble Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led 1,500 cyclists at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, accompanied by prominent figures, including sports icons and the Indian cycling team.
Significant participation came from Jammu and Kashmir regions, where Khelo India Centres and SAI Training Centres organized various cycling activities. Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the event's significance, particularly in acknowledgment of recent military operations, stating that the Tiranga Rally honors the sacrifices of the armed forces. He noted the connection between fitness and patriotism during his remarks.
During this special edition, two initiatives were launched: the Fit India Newsletter and the Carbon Credit Feature on the Fit India mobile app. The app enables cyclists to track the carbon credits saved through regular cycling. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that users could log their speed and distance to monitor their contributions to the Fit India movement. The Fit India Newsletter will serve as a monthly digest, featuring inspirational stories, updates, and fitness tips from influencers.
At the event, actress Sharvari was honored with the title of ‘Young Fit India Icon’ by Dr. Mandaviya. She expressed her pride in being associated with the movement and shared a nostalgic connection to cycling from her childhood. Sharvari added that participating in the rally, which pays homage to brave soldiers, was particularly meaningful for her, as it symbolizes the peace they provide for the nation.
