New Delhi, May 9 (H.S.): The Indian air missile defence system 'Sudarshan Chakra' has effectively defended against drone and missile attacks from Pakistan during Operation 'Sindoor.' Activated to safeguard Indian fighter jets, this system neutralized enemy threats across regions including Amritsar, Jammu, and Bhuj without causing damage to Indian cities.
On the night of May 8/9, Pakistan attempted drone missile strikes on Indian airbases, but these were intercepted by India's robust air defense, including the S-400 system. Pakistan launched eight missiles in multiple sectors, all of which were countered successfully by Indian defenses. A Pakistani drone was also downed over Udhampur, further showcasing the system's effectiveness.
Despite challenges due to the ongoing Ukraine conflict, Russia has delivered three S-400 systems to India, with two more expected by the end of 2026. Each S-400 system, named after Lord Krishna's Sudarshan Chakra, can target adversarial missiles at altitudes of 20, 30, and 60 kilometers, handling up to 80 simultaneous threats. This advanced Russian defence system, which can destroy enemy ballistic and cruise missiles—along with fighter aircraft—at distances up to 400 kilometers, has been integrated into India's military to counter threats from both China and Pakistan.
India secured a ₹35,000 crores deal for five S-400 systems, ensuring strategic advantage and deterrence across its borders. Currently, two squadrons are stationed along India’s eastern and northern borders, with another in Punjab to enhance security along the Pakistan frontier.
