Islamabad/Quetta, May 9(H.S.): In the context of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly seized control of key positions held by the Pakistani military in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. The Pakistani army appears to be retreating, with reports of gunfire and explosions near military installations such as the Frontier Corps headquarters. This BLA offensive complicates Pakistan's security situation, particularly as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) intensifies attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Indian military pressure mounts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, leaving the Pakistani military vulnerable on multiple fronts.
The BLA's offensive comes after fatal IED attacks in Bolan and Kech districts, killing 14 army personnel, including a senior officer. BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch characterized their operations as a stand against what they portray as a mercenary occupying force, accusing the Pakistani army of prioritizing foreign interests over national sovereignty. He foreshadowed an increase in hostilities.
Recent attacks included assaults on the Frontier Corps headquarters and several other military posts, resulting in casualties among Pakistani forces, further exacerbating the ongoing conflict.
